Roy Bryant (born January 24, 1931 – died September 1, 1994) was an American Store Owner and Former Soldier from Money, Mississippi. He and his half-brother J. W. Milam kidnapped, tortured, and murdered Emmet Till. Furthermore, he was a 14-year-old Afro-Amerian boy who was from Chicago.

This incident spread protests and also influenced the African-American Civil Rights Movement (1954–68). Moreover, Carolyn Donham (ex-wife of Roy) was also infamous for her role in the murder.

On January 26, 2017, Carolyn had admitted that it was not true what she said on her trial back in 1955. The 82-year-old woman made the admission in the book “The Blood of Emmett Till” by author Timothy Tyson in 2007.

Full Story of Emmet Till Murder Case

Roy and Carolyn ran a small Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market in Money, Mississippi. Till (14-year-old) skipped his morning church and went to Bryant’s grocery store to buy some bubble gums on August 24, 1955. Later he murdered by the Bryant and his step-brother on August 28, 1955.

In addition, Carolyn on her trial said that the boy grabbed her, flirted with her, and also threatened her. Later she added that Emmet also said “How about a date, baby?” while paying the bill.

Her husband when came to know about the story he wanted to take the revenge. Therefore, Roy kidnapped Emmet when he was sleeping in his relative’s place at 2:30 am on August 28 in Money, Mississippi. Later, due to white supremacy at that time, neither Bryant was ever convicted of a crime or spent time in jail.

On September 1, 1994, Roy died at the age of 63 due to some sickness and disease in Ruleville, Sunflower County, Mississippi. His brother J.W. Milam also died (aged 61) on December 30, 1980, in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi.
